Featured WV Photographer: Holly Greene

June 26, 2021by quentinjmurphy0

The older I get the more I realize how precious certain relationships can be. As a photographer we tell stories and sometimes we forget about the other artists we work along with.

These are there stories, ENJOY!

Tell us a little about you…

My name is Holly Greene and I was born and raised as the youngest of 6 in small-town Wheeling, WV. I went to get my bachelors at WVU in Child Development & Family Studies and graduated in 2020. I started dabbling into photography around the age of 10, when my dad owned a film camera and I would use up all 24 pictures on the roll. Ever since then, I have been in love with photography and the creativeness that goes into it.

Fun fact: I had my first ever wedding shoot when I was just 14 years old!

What type of photography do you do most? And what do you enjoy most and why?

I enjoy and do the most of portrait photography. I mainly do engagements/ couples, senior portraits, and families. Having so many unique people come to me for various kinds of photoshoots excites me like nothing else

What is the most challenging part about being a photographer for you?

The most challenging part about being a photographer, to me, is the unpredictable weather patterns in WV. You can book a photoshoot months ahead of time, the day comes, and it’s pouring rain. It not only sets my whole schedule back but my clients too. Since I do not own a studio and only do outdoor photography, that can be challenging for me.

Describe your photographic style? How did you develop your style?

My photographic style could be considered bright, natural, and candid. Candid’s have always been the best way to capture people in their truest forms, which is always what I want. Smiling, laughing, walking, hugging, and kissing will always be the best captured photos to me. I’ve developed this style better throughout the years of trial and error, but I can finally say I am almost exactly where I want to be.

Describe a typical day in the life of you…

A typical day in my life would be double checking (or even triple) to make sure I have at least 3 empty memory cards, 2 charged batteries, and my two cameras in my bag before I leave my house for a shoot. I will meet my clients wherever they desire, and I will do a 30 minute-1 hour photoshoot.

What is your best photography tip?

Always switch up your perspective. Do different angles, different locations, and different lighting. Keeping your audience guessing with the next photoshoot.

What was your scariest moment as a photographer?

The one thing that immediately popped up in my head was right after I did a wedding in 2018, I ALWAYS make sure that I put the memory cards in a safe spot. I get home and go to reach in the bag I put them, and they WEREN’T there. I ended up putting them in another slot in my bag, but when I say my heart dropped, it sank!

Favorite photographer to follow right now and why?

My favorite photographer to follow right now would be Ashley Tracy Photography, based in Ohio. I actually just bought her recently put out presets, and I am in love with them. She knows how to capture a moment so beautifully and I have looked up to her for years!

Place you want to shoot on your photography bucket list and why?

A place I have always wanted to shoot at would have to be out west, anywhere really. I have never traveled out west, but the photos I look at with that beautiful desert setting, is a dream to me. I hope one day I can get out there and live this dream.
